valentines flower. pinguicula moransis.

pinguicula moransis, otherwise known as a "butterwart". these are tiny plants that live in bogs around mexico and guatemala. they're about the size of a quarter, and their flowers are half the size of a thimble. they're also a carnivorous plant!

they're leaves and stalks are covered with small sticky hairs, with small droplets of sugar to attract small insects. they're a beautiful and practical plant. there are several of other species with bell shaped flowers, but these are my favorite.

what's your valentines flower?

(PS. happy valentines annie!)
