I've moved my blog to a new domain. Visit jeffwongdesign.com

AddThis website refresh. Bigger and better.

We've made some enhancements to AddThis.com. We're moving really fast recently, so it's been quick small steps in several directions. I feel like we're covering alot of ground, so I'm extremely excited to see alot of our work go live. I just wanted to share some of the enhancements we've made in the last release.

800px wide to 960px wide. This means the analytics graphics and content will fill up your screen more. Larger graphs are nice. This also makes alot of the next gen design work much easier to implement since we have more real estate to work with.

12 column grid system. Before we were using a 3 column grid system, which was easy to use since we didn't have much content. With a 12 column grid system, we're able to visually organize the content better. It also gives us more flexibility. I've been using gridr.atomeye.com alot recently. also check out this site to learn more about the web grid system. I'll probably blog about it in more detail later.

New simplified navigation. The navigation uses a more traditional nav bar, making it easier to scan the main menu items and manage your account. We've also added a search feature, making it easier for you to find information about any topic.

New footer. The new footer is pretty simple right now. It has quick links, blog snippits, and a promo spot. We're redesigning the footer so that it's a little more functional and blends in with the page a little better. I'm hoping to add a little twist of fun to it as well.

New swag store. You can now order your favorite AddThis gear. I wonder how many people will order a shirt. It'd be wonderful to see our brand grow and become embraced by the community like twitter.

Anyway, we have alot more stuff in the works. These are just a couple highlights of the design updates.

more cool environments.

here's a daily dose of nice design inspiration for you home.

what do you think?

transformer table.

cool table. gotta watch those fingers though!

I've stopped caring.

One of my coworkers joked around and said he "stopped caring". I thought it was hilarious. So I made a tshirt design. I actually kinda like it. I may have to order one. Hah! Would you order one?

Between listening to NIN and TOOL, I think I'm ready to do some more paintings again.

ip man fight scene.

my cousins from hong kong recommended that i get this movie. they've already seen it and said it's great. here's one of the fight scenes from the movie.

fyi, the movie is about bruce lee's wing chun teacher (donnie yen plays this role). In this scene, the Japanese General is giving out white rice to any Chinese person who defeats the Japanese fighters at a ratio of 1 bag per 1 defeated fighter.

what do you think? pretty violent!

check out this other web app that helps you explore fonts. i blogged it a while ago.

don't know shit.

i think i'll have to read this. after watching a documentary about obama, i'm curious to learn more about him in detail. i'm not into politics, but i'd like to know about obama.

ps. my cousin sent me this joke. made me laugh.

A stranger was seated next to a little black girl on the airplane when the stranger turned to her and said, "Let's talk. I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger." The little girl, who had just opened her coloring book, closed it slowly and
said to the stranger, "What would you like to talk about?"
"Oh, I don't know," said the stranger. "Since you are a Negro, do you think that So-called President Elect Barak Obama is qualified for the job?" and he smiles. "OK", she said. 'That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a
question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass -. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?" The stranger, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea." To which the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss President Barak Obama...when you don't know shit?"

sony f'n piece of crap.

ear wax removal. gross.

saw this on youtube a while back. i figured since i'm sharing a couple nasty things, you'd might enjoy this as well.

makes you wonder... when's the last time you really cleaned out your ears.
btw i came across this on engadget. it costs $140. hahah. that's a pretty serious self ear cleaning tool. nice design though.

don't pee while swimming—candiru fish.

watch out for this little fish if you're swimming in the amazon river. it's a called the candiru, and it's a parasite to catfish. i randomly stumbled upon it on youtube. check out the video. it's nasty.

these little buggers will swim up your pee hole. ew.

ping pong is for lovers.

DSC_0010
to get my ping pong fix, i started a little bootleg club at the office. with the help of oren, we made our own homemade table—which surprisingly worked well.

i wonder who wants to play with me. [shrugs]

generous donation.

one of my coworkers has a nice site that features his own comic. it's incredible that he illustrates all of these from a digital tablet. it's pretty high tech stuff.

if you liked this comic, you should check out his site. he's got a great sense of humor.

the smart growth manifesto, from harvard.

i saw this recently. It was a great reminder of the things we should never loose site of.

1. Outcomes, not income.
2. Connections, not transactions.
3. People, not product.
4. Creativity, not productivity.

the idea is that these for pillars = "smart growth for economies, communities, and..." blah blah blah.

really, what interests me is living up to this promise in the face of a tough economy. i for one promise to design for people, first and foremost. i believe if you improve the quality of life with design, we can create better companies. the people in your company need to know that the product you're creating is not just a revenue generating beast. they need to feel as though there is a higher purpose in their daily contribution.

checking emails, organizing files, and spending hours in meetings really means nothing if the end goal isn't to make the lives around us better.

does your company make you feel like you our your employees feel like they're "powered by smart growth"?

more cool visualization graphs.

i found some more really awesome data visualizations here. i'd love to be working on some of these projects and making them actually functional applications that people can use on a daily basis.

here are some more visualizations from another one of my blogs.

guitar hero scarf.

is this nerdy or what? love it, but i'd never wear it. heheh. would you?
