brazilian jiujitsu highlight demo reels.

here are a couple of fancy videos i've book marked over the years of brazilian jiu jitsu demonstrations. anyone who knows me knows that i love martial arts... i also love watching it. hopefully you do too!

for those of you who don't know what brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ) is, it's a form of grappling martial art originally developed in japan. it was later adapted and modified by a brazilian family (gracies), later introduced to the USA in the early 90's, broadcasted as the UFC (ultimate fighter championship). this martial art is different because the word "jiu jitsu" means "the gentle art" in japanese. there's no punching, kicking, eye gouging or head butting. it's the art of defending yourself by submissions, such as chokes, joint manipulation, etc. there is no blood, bruises, or violence (supposedly). though it means "the gentle art", i can tell you from first hand experience that it can get really rough at times, if not painful and bloody. anyway, chances are, if you're half intelligent, you can go throughout life without getting into a street fight. and if you do, just carry some mace, tazer, or run.

these are some short clips of some rock stars showing off some advanced techniques. check out these highlights:

disclaimer: these are staged... however, they're pretty cool to watch. they're more acrobatic than practical. this is something you don't want to do on concrete.

this is a classic demo of rickson and his brother royler. notice how fluid they are. it's a great reminder that the basics are the most important.

okay, now you know more about jiujitsu. this is a faster paced demo with moves that are great for a tournament. these two guys are black belts. another fyi, it takes about 10 years to get a black belt in BJJ (unless you're BJ Penn, who got in less than 4).

hope you guys enjoy these. do you have any good martial arts demos, tournament videos, fights?
